24-year-old Tonya Reeves made a decision that not only cost her child's life, but her own as well. According to the medical examiner's office, Reeves died of hemorrhage during a cervical Dilation and Evacuation procedure at a Chicago-area Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood, who advertises abortions up to an eye-opening 18 weeks into a woman's pregnancy, says the Dilation and Evacuation is used exclusively on women who are past their first trimester. This procedure involves going into the cervix, locating the unborn baby, cutting the unborn baby into small pieces, and removing the unborn baby, piece by piece.
At approximately 11am on 7/20, they began the D&E procedure. Afterwards, Reeves began to bleed uncontrollably. For some reason, instead of calling an ambulance, Planned Parenthood tried to "fix" the problem themselves. Reeves bled heavily for five hours, and after giving up, they finally called an ambulance for transport around 4:30pm.
An hour later at Northwestern Memorial hospital, doctors gave Reeves an ultrasound and another D&E to go in and see what the problem was. By 10:12pm, Reeves was still bleeding and on her way to the emergency room a second time. In surgery, doctors found the source of her bleeding which was a cut inside the cervix. However, it was too late. Planned Parenthood snipped a little more than baby parts, spent five hours trying to figure out what happened, and sent their patient to the hospital in dire straits. Reeves was pronounced dead at 11pm, 12 hours after the initial procedure.
The Reeves family has now sought counsel in preparation of a huge lawsuit against the government-funded organization. And dammit, I think they have a good case.
Let me ask you, patients: Should Planned Parenthood be held responsible for the botched abortion? Do you think Planned Parenthood waited so long because they were scared of what was happening? Do you think Ms. Reeves should have just had the baby since she was over 3 months pregnant? Do you think the government should continue to fund Planned Parenthood?
