CHARLOTTE MOTELS KICK HOMELESS OUT, WELCOMES CONVENTION GOERS

It's all about the almighty dollar right? At least that's the case in Charlotte this week. To accommodate the surge of people attending the Democratic National Convention, low-end motels have booted people like LaKia Ramsey who pay to live there.

For months, Ramsey has paid $200/week to live at the Arlington Suites with her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son. Now, they're charging $150 a night for the week of the convention.

Thanks to the Covenant Presbyterian Church and their temporary shelter, 30 homeless people including Ramsey and her family have a place to stay for the week.

I think it's terrible what they're doing to her. Charging $150/night isn't going to change how the motel looks and the reputation it has. Soon as the convention is over, they'll be back to charging by the hour and welcoming the people who have been keeping them afloat all along.

So far, there's no word on whether Ramsey will be able to get her spot back, but if she can find another place, I hope she goes there.
