#insaneasylumblog - A nine-year-old Florida girl is facing four felony charges after she went on a tirade on a school bus on Halloween day.
Anber Harris, a student at Royal Palm School in Fort Myers, Fla., was eating candy on the bus when the bus driver told her to stop. Harris "became very upset" and started yelling and cursing at the bus driver. According to the bus driver, Robert Middleton, Harris then started threatening to strike the other students. She then spit on Middleton and jumped off the bus. After exiting the bus, Harris then started throwing rocks at the bus.
Police were called and soon after, Deputy Iris Sullivan arrived on the scene. The officer tried to restrain the girl, but Harris ran into a nearby yard, picked up an aluminum lawn chair and threw it at Sullivan. The girl then started yelling at the officer, shouting obscenities. "F*ck you. F*ck you. Shut the f*ck up... I will f*cking kill you if you don't get the f*ck out of here." The officer was able to overtake the girl who happens to be 5 ft. and weighs 130 lbs. She was then handcuffed and taken to jail.
The police there charged the girl with four felonies: battery for spitting on the bus driver; throwing deadly missiles (the rocks) at the school bus; battery of an officer for throwing the chair; and resisting arrest. Once she was placed in a holding cell, Harris began to bang her head on the concrete wall. Officers asked her to stop, but when she didn't, they pepper-sprayed her.
Harris' mother says the girl suffers from Schizophrenia and she can often become aggressive if she hasn't taken her medication, stating that the girl felt threatened. It is unknown whether or not the girl had taken her scheduled dosage that day. Harris is currently serving three weeks of at home suspension from school.
What do you think? Is this a case of a child who was, at this moment, truly suffering from a mental disease or does Anber Harris just need a spanking? Do you think officers over- reacted like the mother feels they did?
