MOTHER AND DAUGHTER GET JAIL TIME FOR HIT AND RUN COVER-UP

I recently read the story of 24-year old Aimee Michael and how she was sentenced to 36 years in prison for a hit-and-run they say she caused on Easter of 2009.  Five people were killed, including a newborn, a 6-year old and a 9-year old.  She then fled the scene and tried to cover up the evidence.  Her Mother, Sheila Michael was given an 8-year sentence for helping in the cover-up.  As the story read, Aimee was side-swiped by a motorist and because of that, her car slammed into a vehicle head-on.  This resulted in the deaths of the 5 people.

Merriam-Webster defines the word sideswipe as a glancing blow to the side.  Aimee was sideswiped, forcing her to hit another car head-on.  Okay, here's the part where I'm forced to speculate.  Since during the police investigation they learned that she had accumulated a lot of speeding violations in a short time, and they found what they called a "marijuana cigar" in her vehicle, I'm left to assume she had warrants or marijuana on her.

Even if that's the case, it shouldn't be mentioned that she caused this accident, nor should she have been sentenced 50 years including 14 years of probation.  Maybe it's just me, but that sentence is a little harsh.  What ever happened to the swiper?  You don't even hear about that person.  I really think it was about her leaving the scene of that accident.  And even though it was never mentioned what they did to cover up any evidence, I still hope they appeal the decision and get a lighter sentence.
